Dig if you will
The most wicked guitar intro followed by the drop of the beat.
A pattern unlike any I’ve ever heard.
Instantly I am snared into this infectious intro.
It has only been ten seconds.
After the weeping of the guitar comes yet another cry. It’s more like a gruff mixture of a moan and growl blending into the beat of the drum machine. The music picks up with a melodic tune from the piano before it is all taken away except for the drum beat and the vocals that soon chime in.
1984.
I was just a thirteen year old kid.
Glued to the radio, all activities were an annoying distraction that I would somehow attempt to block out for the next few minutes.
This is definitely what it sounds like.
I remember that summer so well.
The song belonged to the soundtrack of that summer.
Although every melody was a banger, no other song would reach a place in my mind and heart like such.
The poetry.
The eroticism.
The melancholy.
From the dawn of my youth to now, it plays.
It plays just as fresh now as the first time.
And still inside I both groove and cry.
